"Couldn't have received better treatment going..."

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

On the 6th of January, I was rushed to A&E with crippling abdominal pains and vomiting. Within five minutes of arriving I was seen by a Doctor and administered pain relief. After only two hours I was admitted to C35, emergency admissions were I was monitored, observed and given pain meds for suspected gallstones/cholecystitis. The next morning I was transferred to D32, and given a scan which confirmed gallstones. I was then offered surgery to remove my gall bladder as a day patient on the 13/01. Throughout the experience, the attention, respect, dignity and professionalism I experienced was first class, and I couldn't have received better treatment in an expensive private hospital. Each area I experienced was superb, and I couldn't begin to thank staff enough for the stressful job they do everyday without complaint. The staff on C35 in particular were so extremely busy, I honestly don't know how they got the time to monitor the patients sufficiently, but they did without fail, and every time I needed assistance or pain relief, Someone was there within a couple of minutes. It was my first time having a surgical procedure on the 12/01, and the staff on Unit 9 were brilliant. Right from the auxiliary nurse, through to the anaesthetists and surgeons, every procedure was explained fully, and I was very much put at ease. The procedure went perfectly, and I was comfortably back at home the same night. Thank you very much for making a traumatic experience a quick and professionally dealt with one, and I hope the NHS has a long and healthy existence.

Thank you for your wonderful comments regarding your admission to hospital at the beginning of the year. Coming into hospital is a worrying time, particularly when, as in your case, it was as an emergency which resulted in surgery. We are pleased to read that the staff did everything they could to alleviate your concerns and that you were looked after efficiently and compassionately. We will forward your comments to the ward who will be delighted to receive such positive feedback. Thank you once again for taking the time to leave your comments and we hope you have continued to recover well at home.
