"Friendly and helpful, but very noisy."

Transferred in from a quiet, clean but impersonal French rehabilitation clinic following my lower left leg amputation - St. P was such a contrast, noisy, brash but very friendly. Treatment was a little more intense, and better directed than in France, but the emphasis from the senior staff/administrators seemed more focussed on getting me home than on the quality of care, thankfully at direct nursing/physio level this was not the case. The treatment received was effective in enabling me to manage at home with just 1 leg, but some of it had to be undone and new skills learned when Broomfield took over to teach me to live with a prosthetic leg. Food was not up to French standards, nor could it provide specific diabetic choices (as in Francce), somedays the menu choices were helpful, sometimes not. On some days the food was good, on others OK, but always better/fresher than Broomfields "Ping" (microwave) regime. The on-site Cafe was excellent even if the times were directed at out-patients and not inpatients with visitors, a sadly missed opportunity. I appreciated being given monitered control of my own medication and diabetic blood testing (sadly not practised in Broomfield). Iwas very gratefull for the good luck to be placed in a side single ward, the multi-occupation wards seemed very loud and lacking in privacy/space. It was unfortunate that the builders were on-site just opposite my window during my 4 week residence. NB. in Section 4 - neither rehabilitation nor physiotherapy are listed as Depts.,nor is there an "Other" option - I've shown as Diabetic Medicin as being the underlying cause of my leg amputation.
