"One nurse in particular was very ..."

About: St James's University Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

One nurse in particular was very friendly.

What could be improved

I was waiting on a corridor for 8 hours waiting to be given a bed. I was very ill, and was not even on a trolley. I was given a hard back chair to sit on. I had a drip attatched to me, which I had to take to the toilet with me every time I was going to be sick, which was regularly, which the nurses didn't seem to care about.

I was given a bed at one point, only for me to be taken back out of it, and onto the corridor again, because the doctor was coming round, and they needed a bed to do patient assesments in. That doctor was very rude, and didn't tell me anything that was going on. He brought in another 3 people to the cubicle, and muttered to them about something. I felt very exposed and uninformed.

I was given nothing to eat from 9 o'clock in to morning until half past 5 when they got me into a bed, and even then it was just a small sandwich. At 8 o'clock i asked for something else to eat, and was told that they'd bring me something. I didn't see any nurses in the room i was in after that, and no food was ever brought. I was also faced with moody and quite rude staff in the morning when asking if i could have a shower. I had not been able to take off my clothes to sleep, as I had a drip fitted into arm. I had to wait until 10 in the morning before the drip was removed to I could wash and change.

Anything else?

Overall, the way the ward worked was unorganised and truely unacceptable. They made a very traumatic experience even worse, and I would not recommend staying at the hospital if you could aviod it.
