"HRT Implants"

About: NHS Medway CCG

(as the patient),

My GP saved my life when she introduced me to HRT implants! I had a full hysterectomy in 1997 and was on HRT tablets. I have a family history of cancer and was worried about taking the tablets. I tried the HRT patches, but I became allergic to them. So stopped taking any form of HRT!

I became very ill, with symptoms starting from being very tired, really bad hot flushes and then serious mood swings that made me become very depressed and violent! I then got very bad headaches and went to my GP.

I was very lucky as the GP I saw at my new local healthy living centre was an expert in menopause. After some questioning she realised I was seriously hormone deficient and recommended the HRT implants, which I've had now for about 4-5 years. They were a life saver and I got my normal life back.

Now I hear that after 31st March this service will no longer be available! I am devastated! I just don't know how the local health authority can make such a decision without full consultation of patients like myself. I feel like dying all over again.

My daughter is also having the HRT implants after our GP discovered she was going through an early menopause. It has also been a life saver for her too. Now we are embarking on a campaign to get our GP permission to continue to do this procedure and use HRT implants. Apparently she has about 300 other women on this treatment. We are a small group compared to many other treatments. But nonetheless our treatment is crucial to our health, well-being, physical and mental health.

We have not been contacted by anyone to ask how we feel, what we want or what will happen to us. That is not right and not fair.
