"COPD care at Barnsley"

About: Barnsley Hospital / General medicine

(as the patient),

i suffer from severe c.o.p.d. (chronic chest disease) & was taken into A&E where after a short while was told i could go home.

after i told them i was not well enough to they addmited me to ward 22, where i was not impressed with the level of care to that i used to get on the chest ward.

medication was never on time, 1.1/2 hours late on 1 occasion, i was sent home after 5 days and am still not right, i just think that they send you home too soon.

the meals are very small but ok for a child. the car parking is terrible. when i attend out patients i can never find a spare wheelchair to go to the respiritory clinic which is a long walk for people with breathing problems to start with.

My name is Lucy Hainsworth, and I am the Forum Support Officer for Barnsley Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in Health Forums.

The Forums are a group of volunteers set-up by the government to independently monitor the NHS and involves public opinion in decisions which are made by the NHS on a local level, these include issues such as Hospital Disabled Toilet facilities (which are now undergoing refurbishment at Barnsley Hospital) etc.

We are hoping to undertake a project to look at Assistance with feeding for vulnerable patients at Barnsley Hospital, and across South Yorkshire, to see whether there is a need for improvement in the help they receive, to ensure they are more comfortable and receive the nutrients they need in order to recover.

We have also looked at the Parking issues at the Hospital, particularly related to Disabled access, and continue to monitor the developments the Trust are maknig to improve this.

I notice that you have commented on the parking at Barnsley Hospital, and wondered if you would be willing to expand on this (anonymously) to help us in this project.

If you would like to be involved, please e-mail me your story and opinions to :

ForumSupport.Inhouse53@cppih.org

Thank you

Lucy
