"Fantastic care at Leeds after a very unexpected event"

About: Huddersfield Royal Infirmary Leeds General Infirmary

(as the patient),

Although I live in Barnsley I ended up at Leeds General Infimary after collapsing in Huddersfield after a perfectly normal evening.

Transferred from Huddersfield early the next morning. I arrived at Leeds in the HDU Department (following Richard Hammond and took over his bed). I was immediately attended to by 3 or 4 nurses and seen very promptly by a doctor.

I was quickly diagnosed as having a brain haemorrage and told what the procedure would be.I was to be treated by having coils inserted into a blood vessel which came with huge risks. However I had the operation and was sent to intensive care where I stayed for 3 days.

I came around quickly and was once again given superb treatment and literally had a nurse sat at the bottom of my bed attending to me day and night. I could not believe the amount of paperwork they had to fill in each shift. All of the staff were very pleasant and were very good with my family and allowed them to visit whenever.

I was then transferred back to HDU where once again i was looked after by a nurse who i think just looked after 2 patients. The next day I was so pleased to see that i was to be looked after by Elaine who had been there before my operation. She was fantastic and made me feel so human again.

Eventually I was transferred to ward 23 a general ward where once again i was superbly looked after. I eventually came home where i have just had the pleasure of enjoying a fantastic christmas with my young family. I owe so much to the consultants and staff at Leeds because without their expertise and care this would not have been possible.

I look back at my stay with fondness although I found the Brain Haemorrhage very traumatic. I was so pleased to go to Leeds as it does have an excellent reputation.

I would recommend it to anyone!
