"Care received during a miscarriage"

I suffered a miscarriage in October 2013 at 12 + 3 weeks (or what I thought was 12 + 3 weeks). I knew it wasn't good as I'd started with bleeding and abdominal cramps, an ultrasound confirmed it was a miscarriage. However, the baby had stopped developing at 4 weeks and I had in fact had a delayed miscarriage. I then went another 5 weeks under the care of the early pregnancy unit at The University Hospital of North Staffordshire and in the end had to have a minor operation as the miscarriage did not complete.

What was an extremely difficult time for me was made easier to cope with by the professional, kind and empathetic nature of the staff who work at the early pregnancy unit (in particular Julie and Janet). They really are brilliant!

The staff at the day surgery unit (ward 105) were also fantastic and I was very pleased to find that on the day I had been given my own room at the side away from the main ward. I found this to be very respectful and the staff were very attentive and I was well looked after by the ward staff after the operation.

I would also like to give a mention to the fantastic junior doctors who chatted to me just before the operation and also the anaesthetists who got a hard time from me just before I went into theatre! (due to my fear of needles and being knocked out). They were all very professional and very kind to me.

Overall the care I received from start to finish was excellent and I can't fault anything at all.
