I have had two stays in St Ann's hospital. Both of which were deeply unpleasant. The nurses are guards and nothing more. It is incredibly difficult to get medical care, you may have to wait for days. During my second stay, a cut on my arm became horrendously infected. It was painful, puffy, discoloured, and leaking foul-smelling pus. I could not even get a change of bandages. I was told that I would not be able to see a doctor until the end of the week and even then the doctor (a psychiatrist) would not look at my infected arm. I was only able to receive care for the wound after I was discharged and from a private doctor. The only way you can get a doctor to pay attention to you at St Ann's is if you ask to leave. If you are there voluntarily and ask to leave (which, theoretically, you should be able to do) they will call up a doctor quick-sharp in order to have your voluntary stay changed into an involuntary section. In any other case, do not expect any kind of care. There is little to no treatment offered, you simply stay and wait until you have learned to say all of the things the doctors want you to say in order to be released. Which, after a few days, you will say anything out of pure desperation to escape.
