"Staff numbers in A&E at Chesterfield Royal Hospital"

After being seen by a paramedic and taken to A&E at Chesterfield Royal, I was concerned with the low numbers (even in my awful state at the time) of nurses and staff at the Royal. The staff themselves did the best they could at the time, but the lack of nurses and doctors really affected the quality of care they could provide.

First of all, they seemed to find it difficult to place a cannula correctly, nor take blood from my arm (although the nurses on the ward had no problem taking 9 vials one after the other) through said cannula. Secondly, after being admitted, I was placed in a room with a bed and then my skin started to itch like crazy. I was screaming and crying and in agony and my mum asked a nurse for help twice and none of them even looked in. After waiting what seemed hours, still in extreme pain and having severe panic attacks (I have anxiety disorders as well as the allergic reaction I was admitted with) and being unable to breathe, I was finally seen by a doctor who spent it seemed 2 minutes with me. They then sent me up to a ward where I was treated much better.

My main complaint is with the quality of care within A&E. The wards were understaffed but did a much better job of taking care of everyone on the ward.
