About: Royal Surrey County Hospital Royal Surrey County Hospital Guildford GU2 7XX
I was pregnant and attended the hospital in August for a 12 week scan as I had some spots of blood. The sonographer was sympathetic in telling me that the baby had probably died. She said to return in a week to confirm but if I experienced heavy bleeding to phone. I experienced heavy bleeding 3 days later (saturday) and phoned the number provided but was told this number was not for out of hours use. The bleeding stopped so I left it. The following night I woke in pain and the heavy bleeding re-started. After an hour my husband rang for an ambulance which took me to RSCH. The nurse was supportive but when the doctor finally saw me, he was verging on rude and said I shouldn't have gone and should go home. No-one had warned me how heavy the bleeding would be and when I asked how I would know when to come hospital he responded if I felt faint I should come in but actually if I felt faint it was probably too late so I should come in before that. I'm at a loss what I should have done or why the ambulance drove me over 20 miles for no reason. I had 3 ultrasound scans for my miscarriage and found the waiting room full of posters about support for twins/mulitple births extremely insensitive. The poster about "we were here, where were you" also annoyed me during the long waits. If such a huge proportion of people miss their hospital appointments then why can't the hospital run on time?
