"Terrifyingly awful experience!!"
About: Ealing Hospital Ealing Hospital Southall UB1 3HW
I brought my partner to A&E following acute symptoms. We were initially seen within an hour which i thought was good - but unfortunately that is where the positive remarks end. Having handed over a urine sample it was decided we should be sent into the a&e ward for more tests. In the initial cubicle we were placed in there was the sheet from the previous patient together with their hospital robe bundled on the side. Notes did not appear to have been passed on as we were asked to detail the problem all over again. As bloods were being taken another drunk patient wandered into the cubicle and started talking to the nurse taking the bloods which was very undignified and stressful for my partner. We were then transferred to another open ward where there were no visitors chairs, an overflowing sharps bin at the end of the bed together with a used tourniquet. A doctor began an assessment asking again 'what was wrong'. He was then called away saying he would 'be right back' only 1.5hrs later no one had been despite asking if we had been forgotten about! Finally we were asked for a fourth time to explain the problem and informed that the original urine sample had now been lost (?!). Finally after another long wait we were sent home with some painkillers which we later (by chance) discovered contained codeine despite my partner informing the staff clearly at the start of her allergy and being given a red arm band to identify this!!! Cleanliness and communication between professionals and with patient were dire and we were discharged with a medication that could have made my partner seriously ill... Doesn't really get much worse!!
