"Prompt attention to potentially serious condition"

About: Conquest Hospital

I was staying in Bexhill on holiday; I'm having chemotherapy for Bowel cancer and at 7.00pm one evening I had symptoms which could have indicated a potentially life threatening condition of Neutropenic sepsis. My normal support team is at Exeter where I live and they advised that I needed an immediate blood test and treatment if the test showed Neutropenia. Although I am not a patient of East Sussex Healthcare trust, I was looked after incredibly well. A&E was busy when I arrived, but my blood test was carried out immediately on arrival and the results were available within 1/2 an hour. Luckily the test was negative, but I was advised to see a Doctor before being discharged. I was made comfortable in a clean cubicle and attended to extremely well by the nursing staff. I had a near crisis with my Ileostomy bag, which was averted by the prompt and interested attention of one of the nurses. I did have to wait for a while to see the Doctor, but A & E was busy that night, so no complaints with that. The Doctor who attended me understood my condition well and was able to advise me accordingly. I could not praise the staff in A & E Conquest hospital more highly, everyone from the receptionist, nurses and doctor were excellent - I wish I had the names of those who attended me, but you all know who you are so thank you all very much indeed.

Thank you very much for expressing your appreciation of the standard of care you received at the A&E Department at the Conquest Hospital. It’s always encouraging for staff to receive positive feedback. As a Trust we are committed to giving the highest quality of care, and we value all comments from patients and their families. It was extremely kind of you to take the time to provide feedback. I will ensure that your comments are shared with the A&E staff.
