"SRU is perhaps one of the hardest ..."

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

(as a relative),

What I liked

SRU is perhaps one of the hardest places to work where pressures and treatments are so varied that you need the patience of a saint. ALL of these nurses and professionals were exemplary in every aspect.

What could be improved

Inter-department communication is truely awful. One makes an appointment, the next then doesn't have it or claims not to know. One investigation proves that the appointment was made but the receiveing department has a 'jobsworth' who was having a bad-hair day and decided to take it out on the patient. (1) This is not the patient's fault, (2) who are you there to serve? and (3) where was the apology to the patient? Answer - we're still waiting.

Anything else?

Parking is a nightmare. Run by the equivalent of the German SS, this outsourced company has a lot to learn about the word "Emergency". When you arrive at the hospital in the small hours of the morning with someone whose life is in danger, your first thought is to get change for the parking machines and to know the fees - obviously. Further self-examination proved that I was deficient in ensuring that the patient is a secondary consideration to the vehicle parking ticket expiry time. I am sick and tired of this "take, take, take" attitude when you are forced to visit a hospital. Some of us don't have public transport options, and have to use cars - get used to it and treat us accordingly. Not all of us are out to get freebies. If we are there for an emergency, don't then hound us for the £10 or £3 to park our cars whilst our relatives die - for some reason it just doesn't seem right to me - perhaps I am too old fashioned.
