"Bad Treatment"

About: Leighton Hospital

I feel that Leighton lacks any true care for its patients; it fails to triage its patients efficiently and normally your sat for an hour plus just to be triage'd. So you could be sat there bleeding in your brain, and they still fail to see you. My niece (6 months old) had a fall, and had taken them over 2 hours to see her! After seeing her, we approached the reception desk who advised us that they unsure if they should send her to Minors or Majors and that was the cause of the delay!! A personal experience of my own was when I went in regarding a throat infection. Upon seeing a doctor, I advised them I was allergic to something, and was rushed to hospital when I was younger after taking it. I advised him it was on my record, but I was unsure what it was... He didn't bother checking, and told me to take these tablets. 2 hours later after taking some, I was taken back into hospital where A&E had to resolve their mess up!

Response from Leighton Hospital

I am extremely sorry that your experience of the emergency department was so poor. Our staff assess (triage) patients using a nationally recognised framework that is based on research based evidence. We also recognise the differing needs of children and try very hard to ensure their treatment is prompt in order to reduce their anxieties. I recognise that we did not achieve this standard on this occasion and I apologise for this. If you would like to discuss your specific experiences in more detail, then please do not hesitate to contact the customer care team on 01270 278098 who will be happy to help you. Sue Talbot-Crosby, Matron, Accident and Emergency Department, Emergency Care Division.
