I had an appointment at dermatology due to a suspicious lesion on my leg which my GP had attempted to treat with no success. After some research we realised the lesion looked identical to Bowens disease. Therefore my GP referred me to dermatology. I assume it was a dermatologist who I saw, however their attitude and knowledge was well below par! Before even looking at my leg she told me it was nothing! She told me she won't do a biopsy because I had a child with me!! This child is nearly 10 years old and was perfectly capable to sit elsewhere if really needed!! A biopsy only requires a tiny amount of local anaesthetic. When I questioned the woman about whether it could be Bowens disease, she told me that Bowens dies not present as red scaly patches. (Which is exactly how it presents!!!) she told me thy I was not a typical person to get bowens. (I am very blonde and fair skinned) which is very typical!! The woman even spoke to me with her back to me most of the time, and was even so rude to show me how to wash my hands!! I am a nurse with a high level degree!!! How rude and degrading this woman is!! She was not only incompetent with the assessment, but when I attended the outpatient pharmacy, the pharmacist informed me that she had put the wrong details on the paperwork, as the hospital number was a man!! I would normally recommend hallamshire hospital. But after this I will be informing all patients I come across of my personal experience and informing them that as a nurse myself I wouldn't attend ever again!!! Thankgod we are allowed to choose which hospital to attend now!! As hallamshire will be at the very bottom of my list after the complete rudeness and incompetence of this woman. Have made a complaint via the correct route also!!
"Poor poor and even more poor!!"
