I was in hospital for a week and a half before any information was shared with my family and that took a nurse to come back off holiday and she contacted a doctor who had also just come back off holiday. They were very good and explained everything. I was transferred to a medical ward after just over two weeks and that is where I became depressed. I am 84 but have a lively mind and am young at heart (if not in body) but being in a bay on that ward with 'old' men, some who had dementia, (I know they can't help what they do), but I was never so glad to see my family at visiting times when I just broke down and cried to them. Most of the staff were very good with me and the other patients on that ward.
