I have four children and gave birth to my first two at the general and the last two at st Mary's . It wasn't until I'd given birth there that I realised how fantastic it was . My two labours at the general went without complications but lacked any one to one care and if my mum hadn't been there with us myself and my husband would of felt like we were going it alone , my sons head was crowning and the midwife went on her break ! At st Mary's the care is amazing , both labours my midwife was there the whole time supporting us . The whole experience was completely different , everything was calm and relaxed and my babies seemed to deliver themselves . My daughter did have her cord wrapped around her neck but they dealt with it so quickly and calmly we didn't even know until after . I'd always been apprehensive as there's no doctors there but be totally assured if there are any problems the high level of care means they're spotted a lot earlier than in another hospital where you're left alone for long periods if time . I had total confidence in the wonderful midwifes there and can't thank them enough . I had the same midwife all through my pregnancies and there's always the chance she'll be at the birth aswell which is something you'll never get in a hospital anymore . It would be a massive loss to all us ladies if it were to close . The aftercare is fantastic too , your encouraged to recover on the ward again not something that happens in a hospital , I had my second daughter at 2.17 am in the general and was asked if I wanted to get a shower there or go straight home as they didn't really want open another bay to put me in ! I felt welcomed and looked after there exactly what you need after a birth . I would highly recommend St Mary's Birth Centre to any lady lucky enough to have the opportunity to give birth there .
"Amazing birth centre"
