"Quality of treatment is more important than having..."

I attended A & E at Moorfields following symptoms of a possible retinal detachment.. I immediately queued for a short time before being seen by a triage nurse and then went through a process which ended with my being seen by a doctor. I was then asked to attend the following day for a major operation to repair the retinal detachment. I attended a third day to have the eye patch removed and a check to see that the eye was progressing as expected. On each occasion I received excellent professional care and I was fully informed about my eye and what needed to happen to restore its function. I have no criticism of the care I received at any stage. It is true that I did wait to be seen in A & E and on the day of the operation but it is also true that it was very evident that there were many other patients who were also needing to be seen. Given that many eye conditions need to be treated as soon as possible it is inevitable that people will have to wait. Eye problems are worrying because of the fear of loss of sight. Moorfields provides a round the clock service and anyone can turn up with a sudden eye condition and know that they will be seen and treated even if this means waiting their turn. We are fortunate to have a specialist eye hospital that can treat the large number of people that Moorfields does. I am grateful to the staff for their care and attention.
