"my pregnancy and birth"

About: Kettering General Hospital

Anything else?

I was pregnant with my first. My last 2months were bad I was swollen so much my shoes and even flip flops wouldn't fit, bp was extremely high (at one point 156/106) was in and out of fetal health having monitoring and blood tests, some days I was in there 7hours! The girls told me I was sure to be induced because of the mess I was in. Consultant kept saying no just rest but even walking to the toilet made my feet worse. I had a stretch and sweep in the hospital and when the doctor left the room she left the door wide open and my clothes were the other side of the room! My midwife kept sending me to a&e and fetal health. My waters then broke on the Sunday so I phoned labour and they said ring them back every 4 hours. I went back in to fetal health Monday morning as I had an appointment for monitoring, I went through 3pairs of trousers whilst there because my waters kept gushing but they wouldn't see if I was dilated in case of infection so sent me home, all this whilst having contractions. Tuesday I went back in waters still gushing and contractions 2mins apart. Was there over night with the drip in but I wasn't contracting past 5cm so Wednesday morning got rushed to a c section. When they took my little boy out they said him and my placenta smelt off because of lack of water. He then had to have a lumber punch and a drip of antibiotics because they thought he had meningitis because he was left too long. 5 days later we were allowed to go home after lots of blood tests on him and canullums in both hands. The midwives were very lovely as I was extremely upset one morning they found me in the coffee room at 5am alone crying because they told me his infection was getting worse. It's now a year on and I'm finding it hard to get over it all, but the staff were so lovely and supportive!
