"Redwood 2: Staff should spend more time with patients"

About: Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Posted on behalf of a service user on Redwood 2 (adult mental health ward) at Highbury Hospital:

Staff should spend more time on the ward rather than in the office, they’re always doing paperwork. Incidents could be prevented, and reassurance given if people feel vulnerable. There should not be further restrictions on smoking, this will make things worse.

Thanks for helping to gather comments at the Highbury Listening event.

All comments gathered at the Listening Event are being shared with the senior management team who oversee Highbury services, and I'm sure they or a responsible manager will respond in more detail shortly.

Thank you for your comments. We are currently working on improving how the ward office works, unfortunately there is an awful lot of paperwork that nurses have to complete, however, we are working on how that can be staggered to reduce the number of staff in the office at any one and as aposiitive effect of this more staff on the ward.

We appreciate it is difficult for patients that smoke, as we are a hospital we obviously want to support patients with health promotion, stopping or reducing smoking would be part of that. Staff are always available to discuss supporting patients to reduce or give up smoking.Nicotine replacement therapy can be offered along with supportive counselling
