"Professional, friendly, genuine"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / NHS 111

(as the patient),

End October was discharged from a private hospital following a hip replacement. I hadn't slept since the operation, my head was pounding, I had a slight temperature, and my recently operated hernia was a little painful (I found it difficult getting up from bed and felt the hernia 'tearing' as I raised myself). I also suspected issues with the anaesthetic or spinal injection.

I called my GP and think I was offered a telephone consultation several hours later. Concerned about waiting that long, I rang 111 who sent an ambulance out. The doorbell rang before I had even finished the call and the paramedics had arrived.

They were superb, professional, reassuring and reassured me. They did their routine checks, reassured me everything looked OK, and advised me to make sure I took painkillers and paracetamol (as obvious as it seemed, I was reluctant to take them for too long).

Their professionalism, genuine interest in my worries, and friendly approach ... was a credit to the service (sorry names forgotten, but I do remember the 'male' had worked in Ruislip previously).

Dear BBird

Thank you for taking the time to share your story. I hope you are now starting to make a good recovery after your operation.

It is always rewarding to hear that our staff are continuing to provide the best care to our patients when they need us most.

If you are agreeable, we would like to pass your comments onto the members of staff who came to your assistance. In order to do this I need a little more specific information relating to when and where the ambulance attended. Please could you contact me, at your convenience, on 01392 453831 or email laura.martin@swast.nhs.uk.

Thanks again for providing feedback.

Laura
