"Many thanks and much praise to ALL the amazing..."

About: Royal Bolton Hospital

Anything else?

My husband sadly died on the complex care ward B4 on October 21st. He had been on B4 for 4 weeks. As he was so seriously ill I was allowed to sit quietly by his bedside in and out of visiting hours. All the staff - tea ladies, cleaners, nurses, physios, nurses, doctors and consultant were amazing.Throught out the month Michael was treated very professionally by all with dignity, respect, love and kindness. During the month I witnessed the staff dealing with all kind of patients. Some patients were nice, some had dementia, some were rude and some were aggressive but all the staff treated them all the same with patience, kindness and respect regardless of what they faced. The NHS has a lot bad press and I agree that the system has many faults but the staff on the ground were all amazing. They were very stretched at times but their attitude to each other was excellent and they always worked well as a team. I myself was shown tender loving care and support by all the staff throughout a very distressing month, and the family were consulted at every stage in the decision making in Michael's care. When he was on B4 earlier in the year I only visited at visiting times, when staff try not to disturb patients with visitors, so families don't see how hard the staff work and how difficult their job is 24 hours a day! Also you are able to register deaths at the hospital itself now, which is a very quick and helpful service. Through out my husband's 4 year illness we have had a lot of support from Bolton NHS. Specialist PD nurse, consultant, speech therapist, physios, carers, rehab team, intermediate care etc -all of whom have been wonderful and supportive. Many thanks to Royal Bolton for all your help, much appreciated.

This must have been a very difficult time for you and your family. It's good to know that our staff helped to ease this by their care of your husband and also for being flexible so that you could be with him. Patients on complex care wards have many different needs and some can indeed be quite demanding. It is also good to hear that you observed our staff treating them well and working so well together. It was a very kind thing of you to take the time to write this. It will encourage our staff and reassure our patients. Thank you.
