"Impressed by two departments"

About: Torbay Hospital

Anything else?

I have been visiting the eye department now for some two years, mainly as a patient, but also occasionally assisting an (even more) elderly friend. On every visit I have been most impressed with the excellent and professional treatment we have recieved, but perhaps even more impressed by the tolerance, cheerfulness and understanding of virtually all the staff we have been in contact with. It can not be easy to have to deal daily with patients and visitors who are rude, impatient and demanding as are some I have observed whilst waiting in reception, yet they manage to remain polite and civil to these unthankful people. I don't think I would be able to do the same were I in their position. The value of a cheery smile, a joke and a little laughter should not be underestimated in putting the patient at ease and helping to make the whole experience less stressful for them, and this has clearly not been overlooked by the staff at Torbay Hospital. More recently I have had cause to visit the dermatology department and am delighted to report that this department seems to lack none of the excellent attributes of the eye department mentioned above. So my congratulations to all those staff members, please keep up your good work, there are a lot of us out here who are grateful and who really appreciate your efforts on our behalf. Thank you. Richard Ross-Mowat.
