"Worn out shoulder joint-patient journey so far"

About: Sheffield PCT

(as the patient),

After a few months of pain in my right shoulder I finally gave in and went to see my GP at Broomhill Surgery. I had very thorough examination and was sent to X ray referred to physios and told what it most probably was, and the options. First option was physio which i was happy to try although warned this might not be the answer. The physio was excellent again kept me well informed and we agreed programme of exercises. After these did not appear to make much difference and after consultation with a colleague within department I was referred to the Orthopaedic Consultant who had a speciality in that area. Again I was kept informed and agreed on next step fully confident about the knowledge and expertise portrayed. I have now seen consultant and await operation at Claremont as NHS patient. The whole process including the X Ray was extremely well managed and as a patient I felt able to discuss and agree choices, confident in the thoroughness of assessments and diagnosis.
