Anything else?
My partner has been blue lighted in to A&E twice in the last month with severe abdominal pains and in immense distress. A&E were faultless in attempting to diagnose the problem but couldn't, so made her comfortable whilst waiting for Gynaecology and Birchington Ward to take over. Both events involved being kept in and major pain management. Following excellent care and attention, an MRI and 2 Ultrasounds, my partner has now been diagnosed with severe endometriosis and a large cyst on her left ovary measuring 8cm+. She has had an ovarian cyst previously which ruptured, leading to emergency surgery at The William Harvey as the content of the cyst was poisoning her. She is just 30 years of age and in constant pain. Over the past 10 days she has also been investigated for suspected cancer but, thankfully, this was not the case. Having been passed from Gynaecology to Oncology, she has now been passed back in to the system with a waiting time of 8 weeks minimum to see a specialist consultant. I was not prepared to leave it that long and see my partner continue to suffer and miss even more work, with the threat of losing her job, so I paid to see the same consultant privately and was seen within 48 hours. Having spent 30 minutes with the consultant last night and having had a detailed and in depth meeting re her condition while being told how serious the condition is... He explained it would be an eight month wait for surgery or, miraculously, 2-3 weeks if we pay for the operation. She has made the incredibly difficult decision to have her womb removed and will likely lose the left ovary, hopefully keeping the right ovary intact but they won't know the extent of the condition until they go in. I/We have gone from being incredibly humbled and honoured to have received such wonderful care, to being disgusted that the system is now letting her down so badly while in constant pain. I am not confident that this will be taken notice of but I live in hope. I am in the process of trying to find the Senior Management and Chief Executives contact details at QEQM and that of my MP.
"Birchington and A&E excellent. After care falls..."
