When I was pregnant I was under an obstetrician due to my partner having been on chemo and radio at the time of conception. The support and help from her was amazing, and the continued understanding was great, through every decision I made. I was given a csection 3 weeks early because my partner was very very sick by this point and was on Elizabeth Lowry himself. Thanks to fantastic staff on both wards, arrangements were made for us to have separate rooms on our wards so he could visit me without cross infection risk, and amazingly, they got him up to theatre as I wished. Even when our newborn was taken to SCBU, the staff there continued to be supportive and understanding, and one exceptional member of staff on MB2 even arranged for us to register our baby at the hospital incase anything untoward happened and because my partner was likely to be in for a while. The staff on EL became like out extended family over the many months my partner was there, and I cannot thank everyone; nurses, hca's, midwives, surgeons, palliative care for their support and help in making something we thought was impossible, possible. My partner passed away 4 months after our son was born, but thanks to Southend Hospital he managed to leave knowing he saw his son come into this world, and could be a supportive Daddy as best possible!
