"Access for disabled users"

About: New Victoria Hospital / Physiotherapy

(as a service user),

Both double sets of doors at entrance to Therapies suite on ground floor of New Victoria Hospital, Glasgow are difficult to enter for disabled users.

These doors would be much easier to access if they were automatically controlled.

Response from Paul Cannon, Head of Administration, Acute Services Division, Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS

Dear Mo B,

I was sorry to read that you had these difficulties at the new Victoria Hospital, I will contact my colleague in Facilities to see if there is any possibility (bearing in mind that these are possibly fire doors) of these doors being made easier to navigate through for wheelchair users.

I will let you know what I find out for you.

Paul

Response from Paul Cannon, Head of Administration, Acute Services Division, Greater Glasgow & Clyde NHS We are preparing to make a change

Dear Mo B,

I have been advised that local Facilities staff are in the process of putting in place a variation to the contract for both ACH's, at the Victoria Hospital and Stobhill Hospital.

This will introduce hold open devices on doors, which will be linked to the fire alarms. They will close if the fire alarm is activated. At present all the changes have been submitted by architects and are with building control. We are hopeful that all our requests will be passed and make life a lot easier for patients, visitors and staff to gain easy access to these depts.

I have also been advised that building control can take between 6 - 8 weeks, after which (if approved) the materials have to be ordered etc. It is difficult to put a defintive timescale on this but we have been assured by the contractor that (if approved by the Council) it will be this financial year.

I hope that this is a helpful update.

Paul
