"Booking an appointment"

About: East Anglia

(as the patient),

The past few times I've had to get an appointment to see a doctor at Roundwell Medical Centre. I've had to call in the region of thirty times before actually getting through. This last time takes the biscuit though. I had to call 52 times just to get to the queueing system to wait for half an hour before finally speaking to someone who couldn't book me an appointment for that week..or the one after. And suggested that if I need to be seen that day I come and do their sit and wait clinic. I've been to this sit and wait clinic before with a very poorly, very grumpy toddler. It involves sitting and being glared at by various people for the best part of an hour as you try desperately to keep your sick child from disturbing the other patients before someone deigns to see you, this was also a result of them being unable to book an appointment for at least two weeks. My daughter also came away sicker than she arrived since she picked up a cough from someone in the waiting room. This time I was seen relatively quickly (within 30 minutes) but was told I needed several tests including a blood test and guess what, no blood test appointments for three weeks, I certainly hope it isn't anything serious given I cant seem to get an appointment. The appointment system clearly needs an overhaul or more doctors need hiring because it's only going to get worse with more new builds planned.
