About: Pinderfields General Hospital

Anything else?

In July 2013 whilst on holiday I suffered a transient total loss of vision in one eye, which lasted around 1.5 minutes before full recovery. As I consider myself to be fit and in good health despite relatively advanced years (67) this was an alarming episode and initially I went to a High Street optician for an examination. He diagnosed a probable aurosis fugax and advised my to see my GP, which I did as quickly as possible, on 22nd July. On 25th July I had my first hospital appointment at Pinderfields with an opthalmologist. I was referred by her to the Transient Ischaemic Attack Clinic, also at Pinderfields. On 29th July at 14.00 I had an appointment with a Consultant Neurologist, who arranged four examinations - an ultrasound scan on carotid arteries in my neck, an ECG for my heart, a blood test, and an MRI scan on my head. All these were carried out the same afternoon. I was at the same time prescribed a medication by the consultant, which was filled at the hospital pharmacy. I was informed briefly next day by the consultant that the tests were 'fine'. On 20th August I had a heart monitoring machine fitted at Dewsbury District Hospital for 24 hours and this was removed next day. On 6th September I had an appointment at Dewsbury District Hospital with TIA Nurse, who gave me a detailed briefing on the results of the hospital's tests and examinations, and advice for the future, including, due to a minor reaction with the original, a change of medication. All the time I and my GP had update letters from the consultant. The most important tests had been carried out at Pinderfields within one week of my consulting my GP. The efficiency and professionalism of all involved was beyond reproach and I am confident that it could not have been better had I been a private patient. Many thanks to all concerned. The NHS Trust can be more than proud of these representatives.
