"I give 0/10 for everything. After 8 hours in A+E..."

About: North Middlesex Hospital

Anything else?

I spent 8 hours in A+E with my 97 year old mother on Friday 20th September. the whole experience was awful. Initially seen more more or less straight away (obviously point of contact is important for their targets). She was given necessary tests within a reasonable time limit, but the rest of the treatment was disgusting. Her saline drip was not inserted until 9.30 and we had been there since 4.00. No-one came and told us what was wrong with her, or what was happening with her. Apart from one very pleasant nurse on duty when we got there, the rest of the staff were just not interested. In particular one male nurse was very rude and was chatting to security rather than doing his job. My mother was offered no drink, and no jug of water was put in the cubicle. Luckily she had us to assist her. When asked for a bed pan, we were kept waiting and had the minimal of assistant. I was not impressed with the service at all. It was totally badly managed with a lack of communication between staff. She is still in the hospital on a ward, I ll let you know the outcome of her stay, but so far I am still not impressed with that either.

I am sorry to hear about your mixed experiences in the department. I am the service manager of the A&E department and keen to improve things. Would you be kind enough to send an email to me: mark.channell@nhs.net leaving your phone number so I can call you back and have a chat about what we need to do better? Thanks a lot
