A really good experience all the way from the front desk to the recovery area and after.
I'm 37 and had never had an operation or general anaesthetic before so was a little nervous - but need not have been. The nurses, anaesthetist and dental surgeon were all really clear about what would happen as well as friendly, professional and knowledgeable. I had some slow acting painkillers from the word go and the most traumatic part was having a small needle in the back of my hand for a canula.
Previous reconstruction of a tooth next door to one of those to be extracted apparently carried quite a high risk that tooth would fracture and I was properly briefed on what that would mean and what my options were. However, the operation went really well and all the teeth nearby are undisturbed.
Now the next day, the numbness has all gone and the post-op painkillers mean that there is almost no pain - although I'll stay on soup for a day or two.
Hopefully, my experience can help ease the anxiety of anyone reading this who needs a wisdom tooth operation.
Many thanks to the excellent Torbay Hospital Day Surgery Unit.
