"very good"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

Anything else?

Critical Care Unit were brilliant. My brother in law had a serious motor bike accident with many traumatic injuries. The doctor who spoke to us on the first night delivered bad news but in a compassionate way. The nurses were kind, and knowledgeable, and were always happy to give us progress reports. My only complaint was that we did not get to speak to a doctor for many weeks, but we did not pursue this because of the good communication network with the nurses. The information poster in the ITU waiting room advertised it was good practice to start a patient diary, this was good advice as it helped the family to cope, and will give my brother an insight of what he went through when he is feeling better. ITU truly saved my brothers life, alongside A&E Resus, and the after care on HDU and Cardio Thoracics was also very good. This hospital is very clean, well situated with ample parking. I would recommend this hospital.

Thank you for providing feedback on the care your brother-in-law received while in the Emergency Department and during his stay on Critical Care at University Hospital, Coventry in June 2013. I am delighted to hear you give such glowing praise of the experience and that you are happy with the care he received. You will be pleased to know that the team that developed the patient diaries were shortlisted for a National Award last year recognising their outstanding work. This recognition is a testament of how simple measures can improve the health and well being of some of our most critically ill patients. I will raise the issue of the lack of communication with the teams so that this can be looked at and hopefully addressed. The Trust is grateful for all feedback, positive or negative, as it means we can better understand what is important to our patients and I will be more than happy to share your comments with the relevant staff. Thank you for leaving your comments on NHS Choices. Communications Team University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust Telephone: 0800 028 4203
