"Major illness not detected"

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital

Anything else?

My granddaughter was born June 21 and had scans prior to birth and remained in hospital for 48 hours after birth. During this time she was seen numerous times by medical staff and post leaving hospital was seen by midwife and health visitors. She always had a large abdomen but it took 5 weeks before a new health visitor said 'I am not happy with her abdomen and you must go to the hospital immediately. We went back to Grimsby hospital and they performed another scan and determined she had a large liver. We are now at Leeds General Infirmary where she has been diagnosed with cancer of the liver and kidney. The consultants at Leeds said in their opinion this should have been detected within hours of birth rather than weeks!

Hello, thank you for raising this. Could I ask that you contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 01472 875403 so that we can look into this? Many thanks, Sarah Mainprize
