i attended the A&E department with my 8 month old son tonight as he is a poorly baby, and had a few problems with his bowels. when i got there the reception staff were polite and helpful but i found the triage staff to be a little rude, and obnoxious. I soon found out that there was only 2 doctors on duty, in an A&E department i think that is seriously lacking, however i was called into a room by a nurse at 10pm where she told me the wait would be a few hours or she could book me an appointment at 11.30pm round the corner, well my baby was already cranky and unhappy about being unsettled. I decided i would attend my GP first thing in the morning and when i informed the nurse she tried making me out to be a bad parent covering her own back by saying id advise you to stay as you were concerned enough to bring him here in the first place when i explained i would take him to my GP she then asked blatantly so you arent concerned about your son anymore. if shes happy enough for my 8 month old baby to be waiting round it obviously isnt as important as we first thought. May i add we had this conversation in the waiting room where everybody could hear, i found this extremely inappropriate and next time will travel the extra 9 miles to blackburn!
