About: Andover War Memorial Hospital Andover War Memorial Hospital SP10 3LB
I attended the Minor Injuries Unit on Saturday with a swollen knee. I told the nurse that I had an infection in the fluid sac in front of the knee. The consultation went something like this: Me: "I scratched my knee two days ago and since then I've noticed a swelling, which feels warm to the touch" Nurse: "Yes it is swollen and it does feel a little warm, but it is a warm day today" Me: "I've also been experiencing a fever that comes and goes" Nurse: "Well I can only go by what I can see and you don't have a temperature now" Me: "I think it may be infected" Nurse: "It's possible but that's not really my area, if you did get antibiotics they'd just make you feel even more rubbish" (I was already in pain with an unrelated condition); "elevate it, ice it and take Ibuprofen" I left the hospital completely bewildered. Three days later I visit the GP with a knee the size of a melon and leave with a prescription for two weeks worth of antibiotics due to the stage of development of the infection. Now this place has awards and fan-mail all over the place so I'm guessing I caught them on a bad day, but still, it happened.
