"Rheumatology appointments"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

Anything else?

Well after my initial review (which has never been commented on by Sunderland Hospital) about the way I was spoken to from a member from staff on Rheumatology I was referred there urgently. Over 4wks down the line I've received a message to say they have received my 'urgent' referral and currently have no appointments available to offer me!! I think this needs seriously looking into as if this is how patients are treat neither the wonder the nhs is stretched. These patients that need to be seen urgently are at risk of joint damage etc which would then be more of a burden on the hospital if not treat early enough. I am very very lucky and very happy that I have been referred to Newcastle Freeman Hospital (only waited 2wks) and the difference in treatment is unbelievable. You would not think these two hospitals are in the same area,I think maybe Sunderland need to look at how the Freeman are dealing with patients and take note asap!

Thank you for your comment, we are sorry that we were unable to offer you an appointment with our Rheumatology service and that your experience of speaking to our staff fell short of the standards which we seek to uphold. We take on board your comment about your prompt appointment at Freeman Hospital and assure you that we are seeking to increase the availability of our new appointments here at Sunderland. If you would like us to deal with your issues separately, please contact us at corporate.affairs@chsft.nhs.uk.
