My husband had a mini stroke on a Saturday 2 weeks ago, which came and went very quickly and left no symptoms.
We visited A & E within an hour and they were very good and assessed his condition after doing numerous tests and seeing the Stroke Nurse. They assured us he would get an appointment to see the specialist within a week.
On the Monday morning the stroke unit rang to ask him to go that afternoon for an ultrasound and to see the specialist. By 3pm that afternoon the specialist had diagnosed that my husband would need surgery on a blocked artery and arranged for a CT scan the following morning, and an appointment with the vascular surgeon for 2 days later.
Once he had seen the surgeon he was given a date the following week to be admitted for surgery. I have just brought my husband home following his surgery and we have nothing but the utmost praise for every single member of staff that we encountered, from the A & E staff to the specialist at the Stroke Unit, Mr Choksy and all his team, and last but by no means least the wonderful staff of Wivenhoe Ward (especially Sam Jackson) who treated us with respect, kindness and compassion.
From the first signs of a mini stroke to coming home after surgery has been exactly 15 days and in that time the treatment and service received could not have been bettered anywhere.
A huge thank you to everyone at Colchester General.
