Anything else?
My Mum had a pacemaker fitted on Tuesday. The staff in the cardiac ward were wonderful which did help since she has been left traumatised from the operation itself. The operation took two hours and towards the end of the procedure she started feeling intense pain, she kept telling the surgeon and nurse that she was in tremendous pain and at one stage was actually screaming, sobbing and hyperventilating as she was in so much pain. She was told they'd almost finished and anyway it was just like going to the dentist and she needed to stop the shallow breathing. She has a serious heart condition ! Eventually she was reluctantly given more local anaesthetic but was still in pain as the operation continued before it had started to work. I only hope the pacemaker is successful as she has been left traumatised by the operation and is very concerned if she has to go back in for follow up procedures. I am appalled that in this day and age a patient with a serious heart condition can be put through such an awful experience. Thank you to the staff on the ward as it has helped that the after care was so good.
