I had my first baby at Durham hospital on 12th June. I was admitted on 11th June and delivered our daughter (Abbie Mae) in the end by emergency c-section after a long and difficult labour not progressing. The high standard of care and support provided by the maternity team during labour, theatre and post natal care were excellent and a credit to the hospital. I really felt they went over and above their role in supporting and encouraging both my husband and me during the difficult labour and the stay in hospital following the birth (especially when I developed complications with Bells Palsy which was distressing and delayed my discharge from hospital - again this was dealt with quickly for assessment and diagnosis in a very supportive manner from all concerned). The majority of maternity staff showed genuine personal interest and a high level of support and aftercare, developing a comfortable relationship where I felt treated as an individual and as though nothing was a bother. I received excellent support to establish breastfeeding, my husband was helped to change his first nappy while I was unable to get out of bed, and we were also shown how to bath Abbie (which she loved). Both midwife and nurse also took the time to come and see us on the ward before we were discharged to wish us all the best. This made the whole experience extremely positive and has helped us and our daughter get off to the best start together as a new family. Would highly recommend this hospital. Many thanks to all involved from Emma, Alan and baby Abbie.
"Maternity care excellent"
