"Overheard conversation"

About: Victoria Infirmary (Northwich)

Anything else?

I had occasion to visit Victoria Infirmary in June 2013 and overheard a nurse comment to another member of staff that if you start off private you should continue private as it is unfair to national health patients. I took great exception to this as I firstly visited a Consultant privately as I was in a lot of pain and discomfort and was referred to a Rheumatologist and as my husband is in a private health scheme I took advantage of this to expedite matters. I do not think that those sort of comments should be made in the hearing of patients, if the staff feel that way they should not be making comments publicly.

As a Trust and an individual department, we take very seriously the behaviours and courtesy of our staff and I am sorry to hear that a comment of this nature was made by a member of my team. Expected behaviours are regularly discussed in our monthly meetings and will once again be brought to the attention of all staff. Our expectation is that all patients are treated with respect and dignity, however they are referred into our service and it is a great disappointment that this is not the level of service you received. I apologise and will do my upmost to ensure this does not happen in the future. Sue Wylie Outpatients Manager, Northwich Infirmary
