"Do not take ypur child there"

About: University Hospital (Coventry)

Anything else?

My husband and I took my daughter there recently and honestly it's the worst A&E I have even been too , waiting time almost 4 hours , there where children vomiting in the waiting room and the reception person refused to call someone to clean it so there where children vomiting and stepping on it plus a bunch of plastic cups left that nobody disposed off . The doctors where not to bad , the nurses where pretty much useless and I noticed that finding a simple thing like a thermometer required the doctors to ask 3 and 4 different people . The a&E was not even the worse the children's ward was bad , the nurses sit around not doing anything and are rude if you ask them for anything ,they show no emphathy towards a child in pain on their parents , the rooms have no doors so more than one parent commented they could never even have a bit of respite in case their child woke up scared and left the bed unnoticed . There is about a bathroom to 10 children and no bath so people staying with toddlers had a really difficult time . My husband paid more than £20 for 2 days of parking , it's shameful it's not like you enjoyed your child being ill . There is so much wrong this is just a small example of a few things . OH and belive it or not in 2 days the only thing my child could eat was squash as when asked for something else we where told all the food was gone and given the times for the next meal .

Thank you for providing feedback on your recent visit to the Children’s Emergency Department and the Children’s Wards at University Hospital, Coventry in May 2013. The Children’s Emergency Department aims to see all patients as quickly as possible subject to clinical need. The department regularly achieves the 95% target set by the Government that no patient should wait more than four hours to be seen. We apologise if you felt that your wait was excessive but during busy times waits can be longer than normal. Our reception staff are there to provide assistance to patients and their families and should ensure that the waiting area is appropriately maintained. We are sorry that this was not the case on your visit. In terms of your reference to the ward, without patient identifiable information we are unable to provide an accurate response. However, all of our wards have bay areas (maximum capacity of 4 patients) and side rooms. Each bay area is by definition ‘open’ and has its own bathroom access. We are therefore unclear as to what you mean when you say there is only one bathroom to ten children. Parents of sick children who stay in hospital overnight to accompany their sick children are eligible for free parking and I am sorry if this was not made clear to you at the time. The Matron or the Group Manager would be happy to talk to you so that we can provide a response that is more specific. If you do decide to contact us, please make us aware that you have left comments on the NHS Choices website. The Trust is grateful for all feedback, positive or negative, as it means we can better understand what is important to our patients. Thank you for leaving your comments on NHS Choices.
