How we moderate

Patient Opinion has a moderation policy which governs how and what we will publish.

Why do we have moderation policy?

We want this to be a place where you can read the experiences of other people using health and social care, and where the feedback offered by users can make a real difference to how services are run.

So we do not publish irrelevant or commercial postings (like advertising and spam). We also reject swearing, discrimination, or other offensive language.

Ideally, we'd like any criticism of services to be constructive, however bad the experience may have been. And we don't want you, or Patient Opinion, to face any legal threat from any individual or organisation which is criticised.

For Patient Opinion to make it difference, it has to be trusted - by staff as well as service users and carers. We've taken a new approach to publication here which we think will help to build trust, and work for the public interest too.

On Patient Opinion, we involve some care providers in the publication process: those which are not public (NHS) bodies.

We understand that this creates some new risks, so we have added important checks and balances. We think that this our approach takes account of the interests of service users and care providers, as well as the wider public interest.
