My husband died in September 2022, 2 weeks later I was rushed into hospital with suspected Covid.
I was triaged, the next thing I was aware of was that I was being told I was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and was hooked up to an oxygen supply. I was in and out of consciousness.
The Consultant told me I was very ill and that I might have to go on a ventilator I said that I didn't want to which they replied I may not have a choice (my daughter being in the NHS had told me years ago about the Patients Charter) I duly informed the Consultant that I didn't think they could do that. I used to do yoga and had kept up my yogic breathing exercises all my life and it held me in good stead for what I was facing
During the 7 days I was in ICU I was checked constantly and during my conscious times I observed other patients treatments from the specialised nursing. I can say with hand on heart, that I would not be alive today if not for the care I received.
P.S. My daughter was told I had 50/50 chance of survival. She was in constant touch with them and they always had time for her phone calls.
"I would not be alive today if not for the care I received."
