"My elderly father"

About: Golden Jubilee National Hospital / Cardiac Surgery Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Cardiology (Heart Conditions) Wards 6c & 6d Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Coronary Care Unit (CCU) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Day Hospital ( Older People) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Elderly Medicine (Wards 51, 52, 54,55, 57, 8a & 2a) Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / Gastroenterology (Stomach and gut problems) Wards 8b, 8c &8d Queen Elizabeth University Hospital Glasgow / West of Scotland Major Trauma Ward (ward 1c)

(as a relative),

My dear Dad has been in and out of the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital (QEUH) five times this year.

He had a couple of falls at home resulting in a broken elbow and collarbone, it was touch and go when his stomach ulcer perforated.  His main condition was heart failure and his last hospital stay was for a month.

He was in several different wards and sections and just want to say the care he received was brilliant. Everyone was kind and considerate to him.

Both the nurses and doctors were very informative about his condition and care.

He is finally on the road to recovery after having a TAVi procedure (Transcatheter aortic valve implantation) at the Jubilee.

Thank you to everyone involved.  I'm forever grateful.

Only improvement would be the celiac menu options/choice.

Dear heronbk64

Thank you for taking the time to leave us such lovely feedback regarding your dad's care, while he was an inpatient in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

I was sorry to hear your dad has been having so many problems with his health throughout the last year resulting in him having to attend hospital 5 times this year.

It must be an extremely worrying time for you and all the family, so it was very heart-warming to hear the staff have been looking after him and the family so well showing a compassionate and caring nature.

I will be sure to pass on your thanks to the staff involved who I'm sure will be delighted to hear you have all had such a pleasant experience while attending the hospital.

I will also pass on your comments to our Facilities Team regarding the celiac menu options/choice you highlighted.

Kind regards

Kevin

Dear heronbk64

Im sorry to read that your dad has been in and out of hospital so many times this year - this must have been really worrying for you! I am glad to read that his care in the various wards he has been in was brilliant and he found the staff so kind and considerate.

I am disappointed to read your comment about us needing to improve on the celiac menu options/choice that we have available. We have an extensive choice of menus available to in-patients and I have included the link to the Greater Glasgow and Clyde web pages which provides more infomation about food in hospitals: www.nhsggc.scot/hospitals-services/visiting-hospital/food-in-hospital. All nursing staff get educated on Food in Hospital options and they should also have advised him of his options.

I do hope your dad keeps well and there is no need for him to have any further in-patient stays, but if he does and he is struggling with menu options, please ask him to request to speak to catering management and one of the team will be up to discuss his dietary requirements further. We always have gluten free options available and can tailor his menus to suit his needs.

best wishes

Janis
