"It was like talking to a friend"

About: Inclusion Thurrock (Talking Therapies)

(as the patient),

When my mum unexpectedly passed away, my stepdad started bullying me and trying to get money from me. They had a son together and after a while he started behaving in the same way. After my mum passed away, my stepdad's target became me. I have no other siblings and the rest of my family, who don't live in the UK, sided with him. He was giving them false hope of money.

At the end of it all I was isolated from my family, as I refused to be bullied.

Now life is peaceful with my beautiful husband and 2 children who happen to be literally my only family, literally no one else other than them. Of course a few loyal friends too.

Life has completely changed and feels dark and heavy, feels dense and more difficult to get through now. This is an experience that's changed me and my husband and we don't feel young and happy anymore.

I had counselling done with Barbara and it was like talking to a friend who understood you, she didn't hesitate when she praised me or found a good quality in me or even my husband while she heard me speak about him. I didn't feel guilty for speaking about my experiences and sorrows for an hour non stop. She was a very comforting person to go and speak to and I would make notes of what I would tell her in my next session. I looked forward to speaking to her. It helped me shape up my image of myself, my perspective on life, grow a little wiser and come to terms with things. I got closure of my traumatic experience by talking to Barbara. She was definitely the main friend to me for 8 weeks and I loved those sessions. Thank you to her if she sees this.

Spread love and take care of yourself everyone ♥️

Hi Warda31,

Firstly, thank you for taking the time to share your story and experience with us at Inclusion Thurrock.

It is really great to hear that you felt understood by Barbara and that she helped you recognise your achievements and good qualities. Being able to be open with your therapist is extremely important so it is really great you were able to do this. It seems with the support of Barbara you have worked hard in and out of the sessions and it is really great to hear it has led to personal growth. We have passed your kind words on to Barbara.

Best Wishes

Heidi
