"Clear and honest communication"

About: Antrim Area Hospital / Accidents & Emergency Antrim Area Hospital / Ward C4 Male Surgical Northern Ireland Ambulance Service / Patient care services

(as a relative),

Following GP assessment and discussion with my dads haemotology team , he attended Antrim Emergency Department (ED). The staff in the ED department are exceptional . In spite of the extremely high numbers of attendees, they remain calm and compassionate and showed kindness and patience to both my elderly father and me. Thank you to Sofia and Eric. And thanks to Suzanne, the medic who very quickly identified a possible diagnosis and put him on the right care pathway .

The staff in C4 communicated with me by phone with kindness - knowing the pressures in Antrim Hospital, it really means a lot to have a kind and caring voice on the phone when enquiring about a loved family member. Thank you Gertrude and Michelle. And thank you to Julie for supporting dad as he transferred to Royal Victoria Hospital (RVH) and arranging for a medic to discuss his care with me. I didn’t get the junior doctors name but he could give masterclasses in clear and honest communication .

And my dad said he enjoyed the conversation with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NISA) crew on the way to RVH .

Dear hscdoer&user67,

Thank you for taking the time to send in this positive feedback regarding both your father's care, and support to you by the C4 team. As you have mentioned there are ongoing pressures within healthcare, however our teams do strive to deliver compassionate care to our patients, and the C4 team are delighted that your experience reflects this. We hope your father is recovering well from his time in hospital,

Yours sincerely,

Aileen

Good morning hscdoer&user67

Your feedback in relation to the paramedics who attended to assist your father is greatly appreciated and will be of great benefit to help boost moral within NIAS, I would love for these comments to be passed on to such clinicians as much often they aren’t fully aware of the impact that their work has upon service users (patients), particularly when such paramedics are working within a fast-paced environment.

Your feedback will only add to the commitment and allow for greater encouragement and the continuation of high standards within NIAS. Additionally, taking into account present pressures NIAS encounters, I am happy to hear that your father had a positive time and conversation spent whilst being transferred to the RVH from Antrim ED, and that the clinicians in attendance added to this.

I would be happy to pass on your feedback to the clinicians involved, if you wouldn’t mind contacting myself for additional information relating to:

Date and approximate time of incident

I can be contacted at the email address below:

ruairi.cummings@nias.hscni.net

Alternatively, I can be contacted on:

I hope that your father is feeling much better.

Best wishes

Ruairi Cummings
