"Ending of therapy and mental health services consequently"

About: Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust

(as a service user),

I have been in the mental health system for over 30 years.  Up until Feb 2022, I was receiving weekly lead practitioner sessions and was receiving weekly complex trauma therapy.

My therapist had been on sick leave from April 2021 until Feb 2022 when I then learnt she would not be coming back to her job.  During all the time she was away I was encouraged to wait for her return, as I had asked my GP to refer me elsewhere for temporary therapy whilst awaiting her return as no one at that point knew anything of when she would be returning and my mental health was beginning to unravel.

When my therapist did not return back to her job, I was left devastated.  At a time I needed support there was none.  I received no support from mental health at all and since this time, I have now discovered myself discharged back to my GP without any communication at all from mental health.  This has tipped me over the edge.

My GP asked the local ATS for a supporting letter so she could get me the specialist therapy I needed, but they refused to offer a supporting letter.  Instead they went one better and wrote to  the CCG and said my therapy was planning to end which was not true, that I had a planned ending with my therapist.  My therapist went off sick suddenly and never came back.  That was not a planned ending nor were we at a stage in therapy of even discussing ending therapy. I feel I have no access to the CCG funding panel.

I feel utterly defeated by a corrupt and immoral system that is supposed to support the vulnerable, not be the cause of more hurt and more trauma to the very people its supposed to support.  As someone that was supposedly on a CPA and on a section 117 this is not how I would have expected a client to have been treated, nor the friends and NOK who had called into mental health and adult social care concerned about my deterioration this past 6 months or so.  It seems to me as if the system is just broke and they are taking down all the broke people with them they can.
