"Caring staff in A & E"

About: Watford General Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a service user),

I spent 6 hours in A&E last Saturday night.

The receptionist was lovely as I felt dizzy when checking in.

I was seen immediately by a registered nurse and health care assistant who were professional, kind , introduced themselves and explained what they were doing.

On the down side, I then had to sit in a really uncomfortable chair for nearly 6 hours which with a high blood pressure and heart rate and also post hip replacement was very painful. I was told there was nowhere else for me to go. I had to ask what the wait time before seeing a doctor which was 6 hours. The ladies toilet was really dirty and the floor was awash so I found another one outside the department. It would have been helpful to kept informed about the wait time as I would have sent my husband home earlier ( he was waiting in the car park )

In the morning I was seen by an advanced nurse practitioner who was obviously very experienced, she was very professional and thorough. She was also kind and non judgemental.

Overall, great care by the staff but facilities could do with an improvement.
