"Fantastic service from the Audiology team"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Audiology North Devon District Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as a parent/guardian),

My 4 year old son got Blu Tack stuck inside his ear. I called the ENT/Audiology Department at Barnstaple hospital for some advice of where to turn to get some help to get it out.

Our GP wouldn't see him and advised A&E. I didn't feel it was an emergency to deem an A&E visit. The Audiology team accommodated him the same day to try and get it out and then booked a follow-up to try again the following week.

They successfully retrieved the Blu Tack out of his ear with microsuction, thanks to their first-class skills. The team was so calm and friendly with a wriggly, inquisitive and sometimes upset 4 year old, and made us feel very welcome and at ease.

Amazing service and so accommodating. Thank you so much!

Hi SammE88

Thankyou for this wonderful feedback and I'm so pleased that we managed to retrieve the Blue Tac from your son's ear without too much difficulty. We're hoping to work even more closely GPs and A&E to ensure that anyone with something stuck in their ear can come directly into Audiology for removal, rather than having to attend A&E.

I will certainly pass on your message to my team.

Very best wishes

Claire

Head of Audiology
