"I was very impressed with the professionalism of everyone involved"

About: Sexual Health Services - North Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent (Open Clinic)

(as a service user),

Arrived without an appointment as the NHS website didn’t say I needed one, security wouldn’t let me see anyone without an appointment but took my number and gave it to reception. Within 10 mins someone called me and informed me that I would have to make an appointment and so I did.

Upon arrival on appointment day I was seen by a doctor and examined, with a chaperone present, the lump was not an STI and I had no symptoms but as I was already there I also gave a urine and blood sample and these were tested.

A couple of days later I received a phone call informing me I had tested positive for an STI and an appointment was made to be seen again. I was also advised to inform my long term partner, I was given the choice of having the service do this but I chose to inform my partner and she rang up and made an appointment to be tested and was luckily seen on the same day and prescribed a course of treatment as well.

On my follow-up appointment I was given more information about the STI I had caught and the treatment was explained and prescribed to me. The nurse made sure to check that it wouldn’t be affected by any other medication I was already on.

I caught the STI from female to male oral sex with a one night stand a couple of months ago. Yes, I cheated on my partner, and yes I know how wrong and not clever that is. My advice to anyone is don’t cheat and always play safe with new partners.

Overall I was very impressed with the professionalism of everyone involved and extremely grateful to have access to such an amazing service. Thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on the service you received and I really appreciate the detail you have shared about your whole experience. It is good to hear about how professional everyone was and that we were able to provide you and your partner with the care you needed quickly and efficiently.

Our own website does refer to the need to pre-book appointments (www.openclinic.org.uk) but unfortunately the national NHS website is not in our control to update. I will explore this further to ensure other patients have accurate information so thank you for bringing this to my attention.
